Air Inter Floralies

A rare piece of French aviation history: this is the original hand-made preparatory sketch (esquisse) created ahead of a final printed poster for Air Inter, France's national domestic airline (1958–1997). The poster was commissioned for Les Floralies de Strasbourg — one of France's great horticultural exhibitions — positioning Air Inter as the natural link between Paris and Alsace for the event.

Unlike a lithograph or offset print, this is a unique, one-of-a-kind artwork — the very object that existed before the poster did.

Predecessor to a print, this sketch occupies a special place between commercial art and fine art.
