Saint Morand was an eleventh-century Alsatian monk venerated for his good works and his vine. It was only a matter of time before a mineral water brand claimed him as patron. André Roland's 1950 poster plays the conceit to perfection: the saint stands beaming against a deep cobalt blue, halo intact, one hand raised with a glass of the brand's water, the other clutching the bottle — a figure of holy endorsement for the most wholesome of drinks. Buvez Sain — drink healthily — runs beneath the name in bold yellow, and the image makes the promise feel both cheerful and slightly miraculous.
Roland brings a confident midcentury hand to the composition: generous forms, bright flat colour, the kind of graphic clarity that reads from across a café or railway platform. Printed by De La Vasselais, this is a large-format piece that commands any wall it occupies.
This piece is sold unframed, carefully rolled and shipped in a rigid tube to ensure it arrives in pristine condition.
