Founded in Marseille in 1863 by shipowner Nicolas Paquet, the Compagnie de Navigation Paquet was one of France's great maritime dynasties — connecting the Mediterranean to North Africa for over a century. At its peak in the 1950s, its liners carried passengers between Marseille and Morocco in a style that rivalled the great transatlantic companies.
